GMIT student returns to DIFE to visit

We had a lovely visit today from former DIFE Design student Grace McEwen.  She is currently in her 4th and final year studying Textiles in Galway(GMIT).  She was able to chat about everything she has done since first year and where her work is progressing to for her upcoming Degree Show.

Grace always had a flare for Textiles even when she attended DIFE and she has pursued that love throughout her time in GMIT. What was interesting is that she hopes to combine her textile ideas with ceramic techniques to produce work that is delicate and beautifully different. Grace has thrown herself into student life in Galway and she spoke about how lovely college life is there.  She commutes home every weekend but has settled extremely well in Galway.  Tutors are friendly, helpful and available to the small number of students that choose Textiles and the facilities provide everything to students to explore, embroidery techniques, weave techniques and printed textile techniques.

Grace showed us some recent work where she uses wet felting techniques and also printed textile techniques.  We were delighted to see her and catch up and I think she may have convinced some of our current students to swap life in Drogheda for life in Galway!!

We wish Grace the very best of luck in her final degree year and look forward to seeing how her career evolves.

We would like to invite anyone interested in our Creative Design(Portfolio preparation) course or Fashion and Textile(Portfolio preparation) course to our Open Evening this Thursday(7pm-9pm) and Friday(9am-4pm).  Come take a look at what we do.
